In the bulk goods industry, silo loading is one of the most prevalent methods of truck loading and it´s commonly used for powdery or granular materials, like cement, calcium carbonate products or grains.
The VAS Yard Management software functions as a middle layer between the ERP-system and the loading hardware. In combination with VAS Terminals, this makes a fully automated self service 24/7 silo loading process possible:
Upon arrival at the loading station, the driver registers the delivery at the self service terminal. This can be done with various methods of identifiation, e.g. by QR, barcode, RFID or automated license plate recognition.
VAS automatically verifies the delivery and determines the required material and provides further information such as additives, mixtures and the quantity to be loaded. Pre-defined parameters like vehicle type and delivery destination are being considered for the calculation of the maximum loading weight.
Sensors monitor the positioning of the loading nozzle. As soon as the spout is lowered, the driver can confirm it´s position on the VAS terminal. The loading then starts automatically. VAS forwards all necessary data to the PLC including the incorporation of additives during loading to ensure the correct mixing ratio.
Continuous weight measurement ensures a precise material dispense: The loading speed and volume adjusts according to the fill level and stops precicesly when the maximum loading weight is reached, considering fine flow and backlash. After the loading is finished, the spout can be raised automatically. The loading data is sent straight to the ERP system.
VAS Self Service empowers the driver to complete the loading without interacting with the plant staff with its 24/7 self service loading automation. Thanks to VAS multi-language support, the driver can navigate through the loading process in the language he is the most familiar with. New languages can be easily added to VAS.
Thanks to the integration with VAS Yard Management, the self service loading process is continuously being monitored: Data checks at relevant process steps ensure that truck is at the right loading area, that it receives the correct material and that gets neither underloaded or overloaded.
The VAS loading automation makes the bulk and bag loading process more efficient due to intelligent automation that significantly reduces downtime and minimizes the risk of errors.
Loading related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like loading time, loading volume and number of loadings can be automatically tracked. This data provides valuable insights into the process and reveals potential for optimization.
